While we try to avoid tooth extractions as much as possible, sometimes, we determine that tooth removal in Kansas City is necessary for optimal oral health. At Facial Surgery Group, we will discuss alternatives to extractions as well as replacement of the extracted tooth to treat you with the best possible method.

How Tooth Extractions Work

At the time of extraction, your oral surgeon will need to numb your tooth and the gums in the area with a local anesthetic. You will feel some pressure during the extraction process, regardless of local anesthetic, during your tooth removal in Kansas City. This sensation comes from the process of firmly rocking the tooth in order to widen the socket for removal. You will feel the pressure but will not feel pain.

Sectioning of Teeth

In some instances, there will not be enough tooth material to hold onto during the extraction process. In order to remove the tooth, a dental handpiece will be used to cut, or section, your tooth into multiple pieces to easily remove them. Afterward, your oral surgeon may decide a suture will be necessary to hold your gums in place.
