Typically, patients will need to wait at least several months after their bone grafting procedure in Kansas City. It takes time for your bone to fuse with the new graft and to be strong enough for the dental implant.

Preparation for Implant Placement
At Facial Surgery Group, we most commonly perform bone grafting and ridge modifications for dental implants and for treating deformities or diseases in the jaw. If you are considering dental implants, a clinical and radiographic examination will determine if you have enough bone available to place an implant. If not, then bone grafting in Kansas City may be necessary.
Understanding Bone Grafts
When we take a bone graft, we either use an autograft (taken from your own self), an allograft (taken from a human donor), or a xenograft (taken from an animal donor). The bone needs to be both tall enough and wide enough to completely cover the implant.
When a tooth is removed, the greatest amount of bone loss occurs within the first several months. We can minimize this bone loss by placing a bone graft within the empty tooth socket at the time of extraction. This procedure is referred to as socket preservation. After bone healing and remodeling, there still may not be enough bone. Additional types of bone grafts and ridge modifications may be discussed to achieve adequate bone height and width.

Conditions Treated
Bone grafts are used to restore areas of bone loss from dental extractions, periodontal disease, aging, and trauma. Bone grafting and ridge modification can prepare these areas for implant placement and other procedures.
